      Sherman Smith-----------------------
      A week's illness due to the complications ascribed to advanced age
      proved fatal to Sherman Smith, 73, well known resident of Barton, a
      retired farmer who formerly lived at Little Cedar lake. Mr. Smith
      passed away at his home on Sunday July 24.

      Mr. Smith was born at Little Cedar lake on Aug. 9, 1864, and 19 years
      ago he came to his present home at Barton. At West Bend on Jan 22,
      1900, he married Miss Julia Lyman, who predeceased him 17 years ago.
      Deceased was the father of three children, namely Ada (Mrs. Henry
      Clemens), and Sherman Jr. of Barton and Edith (Mrs. Clarence Knoeck) of
      West Bend. Mr. Smith also leaves five step-children, two sisters, Mrs.
      Curtis Head of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Sebe King of Baltimore, MD, a
      brother, Chester of Milwaukee, and four grandchildren.

      Mr. Smith was an honorable member of the Equitable Reserve association
      of West Bend.

      His funeral was held on Wednesday, July 27, at 2 p.m. from the Kapfer
      Funeral home at Barton, the Rev. A.H. Otto of this city officiating.
      Interment was in the Newark cemetery at Young America.

      Mr. Smith was a man who with honest work and trust in its reward and
      blessings fulfilled his obligations in life. He held the love of his
      family and th eesteem of his fellowmen. He left the memory of a life
      well lived. He enjoyed a host of friends, all of whom will join with us
      in extending sincere condolences to the bereaved survivors.
