    • Most certainly the father of Hannah Knapp based on the following:

      - Cosigned the mortgage note of Alfred H. Smith and Hannah Knapp in Kent, Putnam, NY in 1844.
      -Augustus Smith's death certificate lists Hannah Knapp as mother.
      -Elias' sons George and Henry (Hannah's brothers) are the witnesses to Augustus Smith's marriage.
      -Tombstone - Hannah Smith, wife of Alfred H. Smith, buried in Old Gilead cemetary in Carmel, Putnam, NY.
      -Elias had 10 children, 7 daughters, only four are known.

      Died in the residence of his son Geo. Knapp in the town of Polk on Saturday 27th May, 1882, Elias Knapp, in the 87th year of his age. The deceased was born in Connecticut January 19th, 1796 and moved to his late home in 1846 where he took a prominent part in all public matters for many years and until old age began to overcome his naturally vigorous body and mind. Mr. Knapp was very generally known and highly esteemed throughout the county especially among the old pioneers. He leaves three sons and three daughters: George Knapp of Polk, Charles Knapp of Pierce County, Henry Knapp of Milwaukee, Mrs John Woolfit of Granville, Mrs Elizabeth Sprague of Neillsville, and Mrs Dr. Wendell of Dunn County.
